Kathleen M. Mills Recognized as Outstanding Friend to Kids by Weller Health Education Center
August 20, 2009 – Center Valley, Pennsylvania – Kathleen M. Mills, Shareholder at Fitzpatrick Lentz & Bubba has been selected as an honoree by the Weller Health Education Center as part of its seventh annual Outstanding Friend to Kids Awards program. According to the Weller Center, these awards are given to individuals and organizations that have gone above and beyond to make a significant and positive impact on the health and well-being of children.
Kathy will be receiving the Children’s Advocate Award in recognition of her tireless volunteer work with the Nurse Family Partnership (NFP) program at the Visiting Nurse Association of St. Luke’s Hospital. As part of the program, nurses visit first-time mothers for two and a half years, beginning in early pregnancy until babies are two years old. The nurses teach the new families how to prepare healthy meals and help mothers to not smoke or use drugs or alcohol. After the baby is born, the nurse teaches the new mom about taking care of the baby's body and emotions.
Kathy was president of the VNA Board of Directors when the Nurse Family Partnership program was launched and has served as the program’s ambassador ever since. Through personal time and commitment, Kathy reaches way above and beyond to make sure each mother and child’s needs are met. As Sara Klinger, Program Manager of the Nurse-Family Partnership, passionately states, “Kathy is the godmother of this program!”
The 2009 Outstanding Friend to Kids Awards will be held Friday, November 13 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at The Hamilton Boulevard Building on Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served and a silent auction will take place during the event.
