Edward J. Lentz to Speak to Regional Chamber Members on Business Succession Planning
January 23, 2012 – Center Valley, Pennsylvania – Edward J. Lentz, Chair of the Estate Planning and Administration group of Fitzpatrick Lentz & Bubba, P.C., will speak to attendees at an upcoming joint Chamber of Commerce event. Specifically, the Southern Lehigh and Upper Bucks Chambers of Commerce will present a panel discussion entitled "Succession Planning: Protecting Your Business for the Long Term," on March 7, 2012, 7-9 a.m. at DeSales University.
Seven out of ten businesses will transition ownership in the next decade, but on average, only one has a written succession plan. Succession "planning" often starts only when an owner dies or becomes disabled, so the risks of not planning are great. The informative panel discussion will cover the legal, financial and communication essentials of successful succession planning. Attendees will hear from Mr. Lentz and other industry leaders with first-hand experience regarding:
- Proactive steps in succession and exit planning
- Foundational elements for a successful succession, merger or acquisition
- Maximizing the financial benefits of a succession (estate planning, taxes, salability)
- Understanding buy-sell agreements and why they are needed.
