House of Representatives proposes changes in GRAT rules
March 24, 2010 — On March 24, 2010, the House of Representatives approved the Small Business and Infrastructure Jobs Act of 2010 (H.R. 4849), which provides for changes in the rules governing grantor retained annuity trusts. The changes would require a minimum ten year term and would require the remainder interest to have a value greater than zero. Many clients have been motivated to create GRATS before the law may be enacted.
