Maraleen D. Shields, a shareholder in the Firm’s Healthcare Group and Litigation & Trial Practice, recently participated in the Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) Membership Enhancement Blue Ribbon Panel on Millennials, Mothers and Minorities in the Profession.
“As a black woman and a relatively young mother of two children under 7, I understand the strong inclination to disengage or keep your head down and work,” said Ms. Shields. “The challenge for organizations like the Pennsylvania Bar is to cut through the clutter and demonstrate that the organization is still relevant and a value add to millennials, mothers, and minorities in the profession. As a lawyer, it is important to carve out time for professional engagement. I am honored to participate in this important panel and am excited to have the opportunity think critically about ways to promote Pennsylvania Bar engagement.”
Members of this panel included a diverse group of attorneys practicing throughout the Commonwealth. The Panel was selected by 2017-2018 PBA President Sharon R. López to brainstorm and develop innovative ideas to promote and enhance engagement through outreach, marketing and mentoring.
Ms. Shields’ practice includes healthcare law and litigation. She has been a frequent presenter to regional groups on the subjects of HIPAA, medical staff disputes, and medical malpractice liability.
