FLB Attorneys are well versed in the topic of financial and healthcare Powers of Attorney.

Attorneys Steven T. Boell, Peter E. Iorio and Deven A. Amin spoke at the Pennsylvania Assisted Living Association (PALA) Spring Conference on Thursday, April 11. The attorney team presented “The ABCs of POAs” to more than 100 health care and palliative care professionals from across the state

Mr. Iorio, attorney in the Firm’s Estate Planning & Administration of Estates & Trusts Group, discussed the importance of the various instruments an individual can put in place to ensure his or her wishes are honored in the event he/she becomes legally incapacitated. Appointing an Agent now to act on a Principal’s behalf by executing a financial or healthcare Power of Attorney (POA) may avoid the burden of petitioning the court for a guardianship down the line.

Mr. Boell, shareholder in the Firm’s Real Estate, Land Use & Development and Healthcare groups, and Mr. Amin, attorney in the Firm’s Corporate, Business & Banking and Healthcare groups, presented on advance health care directives from the perspective of a health care professional/facility. They outlined the roles and responsibilities residents and facilities have in creating and following these critical documents. They also discussed federal and state regulations applicable to such facilities with respect to a resident’s health care directive.
